I edited the footage I got from yesterday in to the title sequence. I added the man shaving, the third girl's part and the car driving down the road part. I will make sure that the speed and effects are continuous throughout the title sequence. Below are some screenshots of me editing the footage.

Yesterday, I filmed a man, playing the detective shaving, which added . This is because the lighting came out right and I did it from a number of angles to get a range of shots.

I also filmed the girls' car driving down the road, to show there were going on a journey, which is robbing the bank. I think adding the extra car section makes the title sequence look less boring and makes it look a little better. Below are some screenshots from the footage of the car I filmed yesterday.

My teacher suggested that I should add in footage of the detective shaving before getting ready. This would make the detective more recognisable as a male, which also contrasts with the femininity of the girls putting on their make up.
I will be filming the third girl doing make up tonight and add the footage in tomorrow. I will be doing this by myself, which will make it hard to pull focus. It will be very difficult to get the camera positioning, lighting, etc. correct, but I will try my best to get everything perfect to make the footage as good as possible.

Title Sequence Coursework - Partner

Due to circumstances I could not control, my partner, Kayleigh, has not been helping me plan, film or edit our work recently, which means I have had to do it all on my own. Unfortunately, She will continue to not help me because of the circumstances, which means we will be no longer working together. I will be continuing to film and edit by myself the best I can and try to make up for lost time.

I have imported the footage of me, playing the role of the girl, getting ready, into Final Cut Pro. I have edited the footage into the title sequence and made sure that the footage went well with the other shots. Also I made sure that the new footage was the right speed and had the right effect on it, otherwise it would look different from the other shots and it would not look good. In addition, I ensured that no footage was overlapping and made sure that the footage was in the right laces. Below are some screenshots of me editing.

As I needed more footage, I have taken upon a suggestion that was given to me by my teacher and I have filmed myself getting ready, playing the role of one of the girls. As my partner, Kayleigh, could not make it, it made it hard to pull the focus when needed to on some shots. However, to make the footage usable I have kept to the 180 degree rule, made sure the lighting was right, shot more than one take and used a variety of angles. I will be using this footage and homely the sequence will be ready, with the new footage, before the first screening.

This is the footage of me playing one of the three girls and trying to pull the focus on the camera. Overall, I think this clip, of the focus being pulled, is good and I will be able to use it in the title sequence.

I have finished editing all the footage I have filmed, but when I put all the clips together, it doesn't quite reach the amount of time I need it to. The title sequence needs to be 2 minutes long, where as my title sequence is just over 1 minute. I have decided to add another girl getting ready. This will add to the tension as one more character is being introduced. I will be filming tonight and I will try to make sure that I do more than one take from each shot to ensure I have a range of footage to chose from. Also I will use a variety of angles and use a tripod to keep it steady and avoid shakes.

Today, I was editing my footage, on Final Cut Pro, for my title sequence. I was able to successfully edit the footage in the order the title sequence needs to be in, but I did struggle with adding the effects on to the shots. I wanted to have the shots looking cold and mysterious, like David Fincher, but I could not get the right balance between the whites, the mid and the black to be able to get the cold, mysterious look. I had to ensure that the colour orange did not show on the shots as orange shows warmth, which is not the convention of the Thriller genre. After a while of trial and era, I finally got the collect amount of each to make the title sequence look cold and like the Thriller genre. Below are some screenshots of me editing the footage from filming.

Figure 2 & 3 - You can see the difference between the two shots, as one looks normal and warm with it's orange colouring, and the other looks icy and cold with the bluish effect.

Yesterday, my partner and I was meant to film the male lead's role with the actor I mentioned in my last blog post, but the actor could not make it and my partner had been called into work. I decided to play and shoot the male lead section by myself, not showing my face and wearing men's clothes to look like man. I think the footage came out great as I used a range of angles and my face was hidden at all time, which can add to the mystery element of who it is. This is because it would ruin the illusion of the person in the shot being a man. Below are some screenshots of the footage I filmed of myself playing the detective male lead.

Now that I have filmed both the male and female parts I will now edit the footage together to make our title sequence. I will need to make the the fast-paced soundtrack parallel to the title sequence footage to make it sound intense and build tension. In addition, I might add effects on the footage, if the colours look to warm and/or contrasts with the colour conventions of the genre of Thriller.

As I have filmed all the female parts I will now film the male lead's part. This part is of the male lead getting ready to go to work as a detective, for the Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). The actor I we be using to play this character will have to have the appearance of a stern 30 to 40 year old detective. To the right is a picture of the actor that we be playing the role of the SOCA detective.

I will also be filming myself getting ready. I will be playing one of the other girls and be adding this to the title sequence to avoid going back and fourth between the same two people.

Yesterday, I was able to get all the footage we needed. Unfortunately, my partner could not make it due to her being ill, so I had to film but myself. I filmed from as many angles as possible and did more than one take of each part to ensure I had all the footage I need. I have gone through the footage and it came out great. I can use the footage in my title sequence as the lighting, angles, etc. came out perfectly. Below are some screenshots of the footage that we filmed yesterday, as you can see it came out much better than the first time we filmed.

I have arranged to film again tomorrow as our first shot did not go as planned. However, as I could only find three girls to play the roles of the female robbers, unfortunately I will have to cut one of the female roles out to make it to three girls robbing the bank. Below are the three actresses I will be using to re-shoot my title sequence footage.

             

Tomorrow I will be filming the three girls getting out of the car and getting ready to rob the bank, with their masks on, and guns and tools in their hands. I still have not filmed that male lead's section, but hopefully I will be able to film that part in the next couple of days.

We planned to film the first section of the main girl getting ready, in location two. I have gone through all the footage and it has came out okay and is usable. When filming I could have filmed from a few different angles to show different aspects of the focus. Unfortunately the traffic held us back when we were going to location one to film. This meant that when we got to the location is was very dark. I still attempted to film the whole of the girls part to see if it could still be usable footage, but when I looked back over it, it was too dark and I could barely see anything. I wanted to add screenshots of the bad footage that we took, but as we have given the SD card back, everything has deleted. This means that the dark footage, that we was not going to use is gone.
I will arrange for us to re-shot the girls getting ready to rob the bank in location one, one day next week. Also, we still have to arrange for the male role to be filmed of him getting ready and also pick the soundtrack that will be played over the title sequence.

Me and my partner are planning to film the girls shots today. We will be going to out first location and filming one of the girls getting ready and soon after we will head to our second location to film the girls getting to the bank they are just about to rob.

                                                                                                    

The girls above are the four actress we will be using for our title sequence. Each girl is one of the four bank robberies in our narrative. The main girl, the one of the far right, will be the one getting ready, by putting make up on, packing the bag, putting her mask and picking up her gun. Then the other three will join her in getting out the car and going to their positions to rob the bank.

Title Sequence Coursework - Crew

I chose Elliott Hostette as the production designer because he was the production designer in Spring Breakers. Obsession and Spring Breakers have a very similar narrative, with the same idea of the four girls going against the law and living life on the edge. I think Elliott Hostetter would be a good production designer because his had experience with the same sort of storyline and would be able to use his past experience on this title sequence.
The creators of Breakneck, Barrie Gledden and Tim Reilly, were the ones who made the track. I chose there track because I thought Breakneck would be well suited for my title sequence and would be parallel to the title sequence. It is fast paced, which builds tension and creates intensity.
Luc Besson was one of the producers for the Taken trilogy and also was a producer is many other high budget films. I think Besson would be interested in producing Obsession because it has similar qualities as Spring Breakers.
I chose Robert Mark Kamen and Harmony Korine to be the writers of the film. This is because Robert Mark Kamen was the writer of Taken, the Transporter films including the future Transporter films that have been announced. He has written Action films, Thriller films and Action Thriller films, which makes him a desirable writer for this film. Harmony Korine is also a desired writer as he was the writer for the Spring Breakers, which has a similar concept to our film.

Title Sequence Coursework - Soundtrack

For my title sequence I used audionetwork.com to get our soundtrack. This was to ensure that our soundtrack, on the title sequence, was not copyrighted. I went through the tracks that were best suited for the theme and narrative of my title sequence. The tracks that would really go with my title sequence would be the ones that are fast paced and electric as this would build more tension in the title sequence. I will choose one that is parallel with my title sequence, which would give the title sequence a more finished look. It would also build more tension as it would be fast paced and intense. Below are the ones I though most suited my title sequence and would convey that Sterling Heist is a Thriller.

 

 

 

Out of these four tracks, I will have to pick one that I think would properly suit my title sequence. These means the track would have to be face paced, intense and really go with the genre and narrative of Sterling Heist. I have chosen Breakneck, by Barrie Gledden and Tim Reilly, as this one seemed like the best one that would suited the genre and narrative.

Title Sequence Coursework - Costumes

Throughout the title sequence the costumes are going to be the same for each character and it is only covering one moment of their lives. As the girls get ready to rob the bank, they will be wearing all black. They will have the wear black leggings or jeans, a black top and shoes, and a black coat or jacket. Wearing black would help the girls blend in when they are leaving the bank, because they could not identified by any distinct piece of coloured clothing. Examples of what they should wear are in the pictures below.

As the detective are getting ready, I would like him to wear a white shirt, a dark coloured tie and a black or grey suit. This is because the detective needs to look smart and professional to make him look respectable and high up in his job. The detective will also be wearing a gun on his belt with the holster that has a police badge on the front. Below are example of similar clothing he would wear.

Title Sequence Coursework - Props

These are the props I will be using for my title sequence. There are three machine gun, which are for the three girls that are robbing the bank; the handgun is for the detective as it would be department issued; and there are three masks, which are also for the girls, who want their identities to be hidden when they are robbing the banks.
Weapons and hidden identities are conventions of the Action-Thriller genre because it shows violence and mystery.  Violence and Mystery in a film builds tension and creates a mood and atmosphere, which could engage the audience and make them more interested in the film because they like the suspense.

                                     

Title Sequences Coursework - Locations(1)

I will be using three main locations for my title sequence. The first location will be the near the o2 in North greenwich. I have chosen this setting because there is a clear view of two banks, in the city. This connotes that the girls are bank robbers as they will be standing in front of the banks with guns and mask, ready to raid and steal money. Below are pictures of the first location.

Location One.

The second location will be for the detective getting ready to go to work. For this location I will be using the master bedroom in my house. The master bedroom's mirror would be perfect to film a few shots of the detective getting ready. This is because the room is spacious and has a lot of lighting that we can use as an advantage whilst filming.

I decided to use my father's unit for the third location as it looks dark and a little gritty. Also the bathroom there would be a great place to film the main girl getting ready as it shows how the girls are living in difficult circumstances and that contrasts with the location of the detective's house, which shows him to be more financially stable.
